History of School

It was a weekend in Milton Keynes ten years ago.
Among the four-five friends who usually gather and discuss together arose a new concern that day. Will the Tamil language become foreign to our children who leave their homeland and grow up in foreign soil? Don't we want to take Tamil to them? Teaching the mother tongue, how to provide a way for them to speak and write in Tamil? Mother Tamil opened her eyes. She blessed us with the Tamil school.

As a non profit organisation, the only goal is to take Tamil to the young generation of our children, Milton Keynes Tamil School was started in 2010 in Milton Keynes. Few handful volunteers and less than a dozen children were our small humble beginning. Back then, according to children's age and their skills we set the school curriculum and managed the school.

Over time, many more children joined, new volunteers also joined hands. Each year Pongal festival, the annual day function and the teachers appreciation day are some celebrations where our school children actively participate and rock the stage. The number of students became twenty, then fifty in the next years. Every year the count grew. So did the school.

The age difference among our children became big and their precognition difference became vast as well. So to manage them effectively and feed their tamil hunger appropriately we joined hands with the International Tamil Academy (formerly CTA). Their syllabus structure and course contents were absolutely brilliant and second to none. They had designed all the aspects ranging from which class to join for which age all the way to what syllabus to teach for which class and how.

Accordingly, classes are conducted as per the ITA principles and structure.
At the end of each year, certificates are also issued to the successful students as a token of appreciation and hardwork.

To encourage more reading and to provide a platform for their skills, we have the school library and the monthly eMagazine.

We are instrumental in the setup of few Tamil schools in England like Aylesbury, Bedford. Some schools function as sub schools to us:

Newbury Tamil School

This 2020 year marks the tenth year of school. Many events including dance, drama were planned however temporarily paused due to the covid-19 situation, when things get back to normal we will resume the preparations and let you know, mostly around October and November.

Last year, there were more than hundred students and 30+ volunteers.

It is very fitting to compare our school to an ever growing big banyan tree where many birds shelter and enjoy.
